Wales Bonner's 'Dream Study' for Fall/Winter 2024

18 January 2024
Wales Bonners’ Fall/Winter collection at Paris Fashion Week oozed with academic confidence.

Drawing upon her research at Howard University, Grace Wales Bonner's signature sportswear silhouettes were met with preppy, polished pieces, epitomised by novelty jerseys, a classic fair-isle knit and a welcome amount of shearling wool.

As always, Wales Bonner played with collocations of form and style. With support from Savile Rowe's Anderson and Sheppard tailoring, the brand presented three-quarter anoraks, tailored grey and navy suiting and straight leg trousers. These were contrasted with looser, more fluid pieces, including a stud-lined mustard jacket (look 26), which had a shearling collar and an upturned sleeve, the latter rendered in a rich Indian quilt fabric. There were also sportier pieces, such as varsity jumpers, baseball caps and a red Adidas jumper (look 20), cordially nodding to the ongoing collaboration between the two stalwarts.

We’re excited to see Wales Bonner branch further into women's wear this season with a patent shearling bomber, a tunic dress, an oversized grey peacoat and knitted skirt sets. Each women's look felt timeless, embracing the gratifying silhouettes that we see season after season.

In the accessories department, Wales Bonner continued her presentation of meticulously rendered leather footwear, including oversize calf-high biker boots and slim silver, leopard and black Mary-Janes, clasped with a bold diamanté. Jewellery excitingly made its mark, spearheaded by a beaded feather necklace and an abstract brass broach, transporting us deeper into the dreamscape Wales Bonner so thoughtfully created.

SEE ISSUE #06 HERE. The theme for this issue, Revelations, delves into the unfiltered aspects of life. It’s an appreciation and exploration of raw beauty, where authenticity reigns supreme; the unconventional is not just accepted but celebrated. In a world of manufactured perfection, this issue chooses to validate our quirks and idiosyncrasies. After all, they are what make us inimitable.
