Pseushi’s Top 5 Independent Australian Labels

words PSEUSHI
15 March 2023

To celebrate their new collaboration with legendary music brand Roland, local streetwear brand Pseushi has prepared a selection of 5 Independent Labels to look out for.

Roland’s collaboration with Pseushi sees the global music manufacturer team up with a local leader in Australian fashion. Founded by Wesley Chiang, Pseushi is an all genders label that has grown to become one of Sydney’s most talked about independent brands, with collections that combine unique graphics with high-end fabrics and processes. Aligned in their core philosophy of driving culture forward, the collaboration sets to bring music and fashion communities together with an exciting new, one-off collection.

all is a gentle spring

To say that the label is devoted to conserving tradition is an understatement. To borrow their words, 'the label warps, condenses and clarifies the vernacular of costume history; borrowing methods and materials from the theatre workshop and transposing them into the world of ready-to-wear'. I have great respect and admiration for the label’s commitment to Australian Made, and their attention to detail.

MAN-TLE

MAN-TLE have a clear commitment to well made clothing . This is evident through their tight curation of imported products available in their Western Australia store. Qualities that come to mind: Japanese craftsmanship; hardwearing modern work wear; heavy weight clothing.

108 Warehouse

With exquisite taste, the team at 108 have created a strong creative community in an extremely short amount of time. Their curation of vintage garments as well as global and domestic labels is second to none. The 108 Warehouse in-house brand is no different. I love those guys.

Alix Higgins

It’s rare for a relatively young label to garner instant recognition. Alix Higgins, and their beautiful work, has managed to achieve just this. Through print, fabric and poetry, they speak a striking visual language.

Troy O'Shea

In a time of mass production, trend chasing and entertaining fashion, it is even harder to find a creative completely dedicated to their craft. Troy uses period correct machinery with expertly sourced materials to create bespoke caps. These caps are an unparalleled testament to his knowledge, skill and adoration for fashion.

Phoebe Cutler Jewellery

Sydney based jeweller, Phoebe Cutler, creates gentle sculptures for the body. Each piece is beautifully crafted from Australian sourced materials in her Chippendale studio. With strong references to antiquities and the past, these pieces are to be worn long into the future, with pleasure and purpose –future heirlooms
