Snap. Crackle. Neopop! Returning to Portugal’s Viana do Castelo for the 16th time this August, Neopop Festival’s stellar line-up won’t disappoint any electronic music enthusiast.

In 2022, Neopop closed its 15th edition with a historic mark, the largest attendance ever at the Forte de Santiago da Barra, in Viana do Castelo. For its 16th edition, the festival predicts another full house f. With its super solid electronic music programme, Neopop will take place in Viana do Castelo, a unique location that brings together the best of the region’s cultural, geographical, gastronomic, and ethnographic heritage.

Running from August 10–12, this year's festival will bring together top DJs from around the world. Headlined by British-born and Canadian-raised Richie Hawtin, the three-day event is not to be missed. Hawtin made his mark as part of the second wave of Detroit techno artists in the early 1990s and has since earned recognition for pioneering the minimal techno movement. Beyond music, Hawtin has become an influential figure in other métiers, including the arts and technology disciplines.

Joining Hawtin, Belgian DJ Charlotte de Witte will make her debut at Neopop Festival. After completing a residency at BBC Radio 1 in 2020 and earning the award for Best Techno DJ at the 2019 DJ Awards, it is safe to say de Witte needs little introduction. Her passionate, innovative, and bold approach to electronic music has secured her "icon" status in the world of techno. Alongside de Witte, NYC and Berlin-based Honey Dijon will take the stage. Dijon has always commanded every lane she drives in, whether it be music, fashion or activism. The Chicago-native has distinguished herself across genres, with a particular flair for techno. The same can be said for ARTBAT. The creative duo, comprised of DJs Batish and Artur, will also join the line-up alongside some of the most celebrated electronic music festivals. As one of the most renowned female producers and DJs, the name ‘Nina Kraviz’ looks right at home on the bill for this year’s festival. The founder and owner of record label Trip has played sets at Primavera Sound, Time Warp, and Coachella, to name a few, while also having produced the mega-track of 2012, Ghetto Kraviz. 

In addition to the musical lineup, Neoverse will be the official visual aesthetic campaign for the festival. The burgeoning emphasis on artificial intelligence tools and metaverse ideas in society, as well as the effects of technology and how it permeates daily life, served as inspiration for this idea.

The accompanying video encapsulates this aesthetic direction. Directed by Studio Bruto, Cláudia Batalhão, Serafim Mendes, and Frame08, the one-minute video encapsulates the freedom felt in the crossfire between technology and techno music. With fast cuts, a moody tonal palette, and a soothing voiceover, the video places prestige on the exaltation of electronic music and technology.

The aforementioned DJs are only a fraction of an impressive lineup spanning 50+ artists who will do what they do best across two epic stages. Get ready to dance.
