Kiko Kostadinov AW22/23 Menswear Collection with Mythology, Gaming and Connection

If the casting didn't catch your eye, the attention to detail might. Last week, Kiko Kostadinov held the much anticipated AW22/23 show as a part of Paris Fashion Week, but iconically in Mexico. The show was situated in and around the 'Teocalli'-style temple of Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli on the outskirts of the CDMX. According to the show notes, the collection pays homage to the new mythologies of online gaming, pondering the phenomenon of great friends who may never meet.

Each model as a character, and each character embodying a persona from an online universe, "emerging from virtual cocoons like elves in an urban R.P.G" the show notes add. Kostadinov's vision was actualised with jewelled sorbet palettes complemented by quarry greys and sandstone shades.

Historicisms in the collection span the military to the medieval. The collection includes Kiko's signature interchangeable tailcoats with distended epaulettes, moto trousers, asymmetric striped red tunics and lapells, nodding to William Spratling Mesoamerican silverworks. Also featured are canine motifs by the mexican artist Sofia Elias, alluding to narratives of the afterlife.

The after-show fidelities consisted of an event created and curated by local talents. DJ group NAAFI played, alongside some legendary cumbia rebajada musicians and Berlin Label PAN's founder, Bill Kouligas.
