Dogmilk Films Presents Immersive Screening: 'All Circles The Moon and Dirt Shines in The Sun'

The film collective Dogmilk Films will be hosting five screenings of its 4-channel immersive film all circles the moon and dirt shines in the sun at Abbotsford Convent on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of December.

all circles the moon and dirt shines in the sun is an expanded audio-visual work documenting life in Toraja in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, working with the rich and extensive archive of DTSV (Delta Sangalla’ TV).

DSTV have been documenting the social and ceremonial life of the highland region of Toraja in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, since 2006. While Toraja is known globally for its unique funeral ceremonies, DSTVs archive reveals the shared everyday life of the community that is rarely shown. Re-arranged and constructed by Wahyu Al Mardhani and Chris Cochrane-Friedrich, all circles the moon and dirt shines in the sun stitches together an emotional topography of DSTV’s work over the last 15 years, foregrounding a living archive of Torajan life, individual and collective.

The film makes up part of Dogmilk’s new cross-cultural exchange project, Sipakatuo, facilitating conversation and collaboration between artists, activists and researchers of the Australian and Indonesian independent screen communities.
