Since its inception 26 years ago, the creative collective known as Acne Studios has established itself on the firmament of trailblazing multidisciplinary fashion houses with its ready-to-wear lines, footwear collections, accessories and trademark denim personalization program by producing quality clothing that is timeless with the focus firmly set on sustainable practices.

Having evolved considerably with a global footprint comprised of over forty retail locations around the world and flagship stores in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, Acne Studios’ Melbourne incarnation has recently undergone an expansive facelift:

Set in the heart of Melbourne CBD, Acne Studios Little Bourke Street store has not only doubled in size but utilises minimalist design cues punctured by pops of unexpected colour, resulting in a wilful and contemporary boutique that is an amplification of Acne Studios’ brand DNA and Swedish legacy.

In alignment with the acronym’s credo, i.e. following the “A.mbition to C.reate N.ovel E.xpressions”, the expansion follows the brand’s global retail design ethos to ensure that each store reflects and contextualises the idiosyncratic DNA of its surroundings by translating it artfully using the Acne Studios design language.

Centred around a mirrored cube housing the service counter and set in scene with lighting design by Benoit Lalloz, commanding statement pieces are complemented by subtle materials, resulting in a unique melange of modern elements that are counterpointed by serene facets, thereby channelling the lovable features of Melbourne’s Hoddle Grid through the design lens of Acne Studios.

The opening coincides with the release of its FW22 collection, which features a collaboration with Paris-born artist Martin Laborde.

Grit. The word was chosen because it has multiple meanings: the fine, stony texture of earth or sand; the firmness of character; the clamping of objects together; a person’s courage and tenacity. It’s also an idea that is integral to the making of a magazine, for it takes a lot of perseverance and passion to create these 176 pages. It takes a lot of work.
