Dutch Ravers Take The Government to Court
Ah… more Covid-19 perils. Over fourty event organisations in the Netherlands have taken it upon themselves to fight for their nightlife after the government imposed another month of no festivals.
The cabinet’s decision came after a Covid-19 spike in cases among under-30s, less than a fortnight after restrictions to indoor, large-capacity events were unveiled.
Festival organiser ID&T launched legal action days after prime minister Mark Rutte made the announcements.
"They didn't even take us into consideration," ID&T chief operating officer Rosanne Janmaat said in an interview with Resident Advisor. "They just wiped us from the board so we felt that we didn't have another choice. What's happening here is we are losing a piece of our cultural heritage."
After the court hearing at the Hague last Friday, the Dutch government agreed to work with the event companies to resolve the situation amicably for both sides. The courts issued a stay on the hearing, pending a revolution on the discussions, which will be held between the two parties.
Conversations surrounding protocol and safety will ensue in the next couple of days. Most notably, there were talks of patrons having to receive negative tests back, on top of being vaccinated as conditions of entry.
...The never-ending Covid saga continues.
