GR10K for Salomon – Quest Low
GR10K for Salomon – Quest Low
Words by Jackson Hides
For their second collaboration, Italian fabric specialists GR10K and trail runner doyens Salomon present the Quest Low, a hybridisation of tactical footwear re-contextualised for urban living.
Leveraging off Salomon’s extensive history, the shoe is moulded by its decades of trial and discovery. In GR10K, the company has a collaborator not afraid to integrate practitioners from adjacent disciplines, reinterpreting what remains an otherwise traditional production process. The sneaker departs from convention by stylising the historical freedom associated with sneakers and embedding it with an updated political awareness. The result sees a familiar Salomon shape transformed into an all-terrain ghost traversing cultural spheres.
The shoe itself features Salomon’s 4D Advanced ChassisÔ, providing extra traction for the wearer through rough terrains, and an All Terrain ContragripÒ sole that holds ground on any surface. To demonstrate its performative chops, GR10K partnered with Brazilian musician Iggor Cavalera to create an extreme drumming scenario in the shoes. With video recorded by artist collective LAAR and photography from conceptual artist Satoshi Fujiwara, the collaboration emphasises the non-tactical purposes of the shoe, exploring the power of the heel to toe technique as an intense use of the foot.
Determined to continue unearthing contemporary narratives in fashion phenomenology, GR10K’s latest partnership with Salomon once again sees the two labels propel a community forward, giving us a glimpse at the future of sneaker aesthetics.
The GR10K x Salomon Quest Low is available in incredibly limited quantities now via PRGRSS Store.
