The Attico Captures Heartbreak

22 September 2024

The Attico’s creative directors, Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio, transformed their recent breakup experiences into artistry, touching on themes of vulnerability and strength for their September collection. The show was staged in an industrial warehouse, filled with hundreds of colourful chandeliers, and sounds of shattering glass.

The Attico contrasted oversized streetwear with sensual sheer pieces, allowing ideas of strength and fragility to appear. Ethereal garments in peach tones were emotional and highly feminine, with flowing dresses feathered at the hem, sheer bra tops, chiffon skirts clinging delicately to the body, and bejewelled cancan-esque dresses. Most looks were paired with ostrich feather headpieces (very cancan).

A sophomore collaboration with Nike brought a sporty, masculine touch to the collection, introducing oversized sportswear into the mix. Nike sports bras were worn beneath voluminous blazers, while deep-cut bodysuits paired with parachute pants and distressed tops connected to climbing harnesses.

Darker, more polished pieces closed the show, featuring a shimmering silver metallic dress, a high-neck prune silk gown, and a fringed sequinned black dress. It was undone glamour at its finest—so captivating we forgot their hearts were broken.

Grit. The word was chosen because it has multiple meanings: the fine, stony texture of earth or sand; the firmness of character; the clamping of objects together; a person’s courage and tenacity. It’s also an idea that is integral to the making of a magazine, for it takes a lot of perseverance and passion to create these 176 pages. It takes a lot of work.
