Lemaire Knows Our Sartorial Needs

23 January 2025

Lemaire’s Fall collection was a celebration of the “lives of real characters—their individuality, desires and sartorial needs.” The French fashion house has long been known for its subtle approach to luxury, seeing impeccably cut silhouettes and sophisticated detailing underpin the brand’s collections since its inception in the early 1990s. Over three decades later, the label continues to win hearts with its understated ethos, seeing sales surpass €100 million in 2024.

This season, Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran unveiled a collection that played with the traditional and the technical, inviting us to consider how our personal style interacts with our daily lives. Twisted hems and balloon skirts offered a sense of fluidity and ease of movement. Wearability was emphasised through soft tailoring, utilitarian (expensive) leather jackets, and skirts that swished as they came down the curved runway. A maven in the art of layering, the collection also included workwear jackets, lacquered parkas and car coats that added richness to the crisp shirting and soft knitwear worn beneath. Iron, indigo and cobalt blues accented throughout the collection added dynamism to an elemental palette of earth tones.

Lemaire’s classic accessories were updated this season, seeing magnifying glass necklaces and leather bags adorned with glass eyes, peeking back at impressed onlookers. Leather headscarves and slouchy patent leather boots suggested the brand's leaning towards luxury fabrics for potentially higher-priced pieces. When it comes to catering to our needs, Lemaire no doubt will deliver.

Grit. The word was chosen because it has multiple meanings: the fine, stony texture of earth or sand; the firmness of character; the clamping of objects together; a person’s courage and tenacity. It’s also an idea that is integral to the making of a magazine, for it takes a lot of perseverance and passion to create these 176 pages. It takes a lot of work.
