Diesel Resort 2023

Diesel Opens Its Doors to the Public for the SS23 Show

By Rachel Weinberg

Glenn Martens has successfully expanded the aesthetic and sustainable operations of Diesel’s hybrid house. With recycled processes and organic materials at the forefront, his resort 2023 collection saw the brand’s epitomical gender-neutral denim and skin-tight motor wear once again come to light. Reimagined utilitarian boiler suits – festooned with zips, buckles and pockets also made an appearance. So too did the house’s spirited accessories, retro-futuristic metallic knit dresses, oversized coats, and trompe-l’oeil designs.

Strolling on the sands of a piercing white, moon-like oasis, Diesel’s militaristic and very pop resort collection continued Martens’ ethos to “have fun, enjoy life, and be successful in every situation that you are in.” The designer’s past three collections embodied these same ideals. Whilst Fall 2022 took upcycled denim to new-found heights, Marten’s first collection with the house in Spring 2022 included NASCAR-bright modernisations of workwear, high-waisted five-pocket pants with integrated shoes and knickers. Together these pieces have reordered and redirected the position of Diesel’s almost three-decade legacy.

Where will Diesel go next? For their upcoming runway show the public can see first-hand in a first-come-first-serve open Milan debut. From 1st September, the public can complete an online form to guarantee a viewing spot at the house’s Italian showcase. “With this opening, we want to bring the energy that only people who love the brand or are curious to see what’s next can add to a fashion show,” Glenn Martens told WWD. Whilst it is unclear how many guests can actually attend, or where they will be seated, this accessible fashion soiree presents a chance for the public to witness and submerge in Diesel’s Y2k wonderland.
